Public Policy and Advocacy takes leadership on public policy issues by empowering women to advocate for themselves on issues that are pertinent to their lives. Examples of this include:

Women’s Economic Security Act
The Minnesota Women’s Consortium is a founding member of the Minnesota Coalition for the Economic Security for Women which is working hard to help pass the Women’s Economic Security Act in 2014. Click here for more information about this effort.

Women’s Policy Summit
This annual event brings public policy leaders to the Capitol to discuss the issues that are important to them and strengthen ties with legislators. During the Policy Summit, leaders from our member organizations deliver a legislative platform that is developed through collaboration each year.

Legislative Tracking and Reporting
We also track, analyze, and report on legislative and social issues that are affecting women in order to provide Minnesota women access to information that affects their social and economic status and empower them to take informed action on the issues.

2015 Legislative Session Summary: Gender Equity Style

The Consortium works to be a hub of public policy information for the feminist community. Check out the bills we tracked in the 2015 legislative session relating to gender equity topics such as gender-based violence, healthcare, human rights, economic security of women, parenting, issues of special concern to women of color, and trans* justice.

Advocacy Work
Each year, the Minnesota Women’s Consortium prioritizes a public policy agenda that guides our advocacy work. We work hard at the State Capitol and in the community to educate decision makers about the issues and policies that impact women. We also work hard to mobilize our membership and the broader community to take action on issues that improve the status of women.
